Diamond, iVerse Media Partner for Comic Shop Locator App for Apple iPhone & iPod Touch

May 1, 2009  |  Uncategorized  |  46 Comments

In a move promising tremendous benefits for comic book fans and specialty shops, Diamond Comic Distributors and iVerse Media have joined forces to create a special “app” for Apple iPhones and iPods that puts the power of the Comic Shop Locator Service (CSLS) in the hands of consumers – for FREE.

“We’re entering a new phase with the Comic Shop Locator Service and we’re excited to expand its reach to customers using mobile and GPS devices like the iPhone,” said Diamond Director of Marketing Dan Manser. “With the help of iVerse Media, this helps extend Diamond’s position as an emarketing innovator.”

“At iVerse we’re committed to helping publishers sell more comics to new and existing readers, both digitally and in print,” said iVerse founder Michael Murphey. “By partnering with Diamond on innovative mobile solutions like the CSLS iPhone App, we can do just that. “

An outgrowth of the strategic partnership between Diamond and iVerse, and just the first of many planned initiatives, the new Comic Shop Locator Service application is available for free download from the iTunes store and compatible with iPhones and iPod Touch. Combining the searchability and interactive map features of the web-based ComicShopLocator.com, iVerse Media’s version also offers the ability to pinpoint your exact latitude and longitude via the iPhone’s GPS capabilities, giving you the closest possible participating comic shops, even if you don’t know the ZIP code.

Of course, users can still search for stores by entering a ZIP code, just like the original 888-COMIC-BOOK number or website version. Like those earlier resources, the new iVerse CSLS app draws information from a database of hundreds of comic shops worldwide, expanding the cutting-edge service that has been connecting consumers with comic book retailers since 1996. Since its inception, the CSLS has given out referrals to more than one million consumers, driving thousands of fans into comic book specialty shops.

Once the closest shops are located and beamed to your iPhone or iPod – giving you the store name, street address, city, state, ZIP, phone number and distance – you have the option of calling the store of your choice or viewing the location in Maps, all at the touch of a button. Future plans include an International version of the Comic Shop Locator app, widening the Service’s reach even further. Like other downloads available from iTunes, the CSLS app is fully supported and approved by Apple, as well as iVerse Media and Diamond.

In Regards to Submissions…

April 30, 2009  |  Uncategorized  |  12 Comments

Hello Everyone,

Over the last few weeks we’ve received several inquiries about submitting your projects to iVerse. We’re very flattered and excited to see so many creators interested in doing projects for the platform. Right now the iVerse website is getting a major overhaul. Including updated submissions policy details.

One thing that I’ve seen far too many people do, though, is obsess over the submissions process. I’ve done it myself in the past. You think “what if I format this wrong and they refuse to even look at it?” So you want to get it EXACTLY right. Some people are that way, anyway. Others just want to know if we’re accepting submissions.

We’re always accepting submissions, but due to the tremendous volume of submissions we receive, we can’t actually give critical responses to every one. I wish we could, but if we were to respond to every single submission we’ve received in the last 6 months, we’d never have put a book out.

Again, we’re amazingly flattered that so many people are interested in working with us, and we greatly appreciate your time and effort. If you’re looking to submit a project to us, we’ll have official submission guidelines up when the site refreshes, but I can sum up the best way to submit to us in one sentence…

Send us whatever it takes to convince us to distribute your work.

There’s an important distinction between distribution and publishing. You’re the publisher. We’re the distributor.

So just send us what you think we need to see. If you bog us down with too much stuff (i.e. 50 pages of script, and 100 character sketches) we’re not going to be able to look at that anytime soon. Keep it brief. Send us as little as possible…but enough to “sell” your project.

Those guidelines should be flexible enough for you to send what you need, but I think are specific enough for us to get the point across that shorter is better.

Keep it brief. Make it awesome.

Thanks for your interest.

Best,

Michael Murphey
