(San Diego, December 8,   2008) The Original Crew of the Starship Enterprise are roaring to the iPhone and iPod touch from IDW Publishing and iVerse Media.  Available immediately, Star Trek Archives: The Best of Peter David #1 is the first issue of the ongoing digital comics series that reprints some of the best comics from Star Trek’s illustrious history. Peter David is one of the most popular and respected Star Trek writers, known for his mingling of humor and popular culture.

“We’re very excited that some of IDW’s Star Trek titles will now available for readers to download from itunes through the App Store. It’s a great way for fans to experience some of the best work in comics,” IDW’s Ted Adams said.

This issue reprints Star Trek #13 (originally published by DC Comics) – “The Return of the Worthy: Part One” by Bill Mumy, Peter David, and Gordon Pucell.  The story stars the Original Series cast, and is set between the 5th and 6th Star Trek feature film.

“Star Trek Archives allows us to bring the universe of Star Trek to the iPhone and iPod touch for the first time”, said Michael Murphey, owner of iVerse Media. “Through this series we can publish stories throughout the history of Trek, from TOS to TNG and beyond.  Being Trekkies ourselves, we couldn’t be more excited about that.”

GHOST WHISPERER: The Haunted #1 is now available in the App Store!

November 17, 2008  |  App Store, Ghost Whisperer, IDW, iPhone  |  10 Comments

Today IDW Publishing’s “Ghost Whisperer: The Haunted #1” is available in the iTunes App Store. The comic is based on the hit CBS series starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, and is one of the best TV show to comic adaptions I’ve seen in a while.

The book is written by writers from the TV series, and does a great job of telling a story that would make for an entire episode of the show – not just the first commercial break like you would find in some first issues of TV books.

I think this is a perfect gateway book for people that might like the show, but don’t read comics – and I encourage you to tell any of your friends that may not be comic readers, but do enjoy this show, to check the book out. They won’t be disappointed.

You can download the book for $0.99 right now.

Apple approves our first titles!

October 22, 2008  |  Comics, iPhone  |  4 Comments

UPDATE: All of our initial titles have now been approved.  We have not yet seen a rejection based on content.

I know many of you have expressed concern over Apple’s policies for inclusion in the App Store when it comes to content.  Particularly because of the rejection of a comic created specifically for the iPhone called “Murderdrome”.

I don’t know the full extent of the content in that book, but what I’ve seen from it had people decapitated and the murder of others as a fun sport.  From what I understand it was satirical in nature, but having not seen it in its entirety, I can’t very well comment on the content of it.

What I can comment on is the content of our first round of titles.  So far we have submitted 6 completed books, 5 of which have been approved.  The content on these books has ranged from “G” to “PG-13” and all of them have been approved with no trouble.

So, while there is certainly still some question as to what Apple is and is not going to allow into their store, it certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to be huge problem.  I’ll admit when that stuff first started happening I was afraid Apple was going to be gun shy and not let ANYTHING in – and that has certainly proven to NOT be the case.

So – all is looking well here.  We’ve decided to launch the first titles on Nov. 1st – so be on the look out…they will be in the App Store very soon.
